House Producer Stephen Smith first emerged on the San
Francisco music scene as an in-demand electric bassist for a myriad of
jazz, blues, funk, and rock artists, both onstage and in the studio.
Over his 25+ year stint as a session bassist, Smith logged thousands
of shows at various festivals and venues, including the JVC Jazz
Festival, Fujitsu Jazz Festival, Monterey Blues Festival, the Oakland
Coliseum, Slim's, and the Great American Music Hall.
When Stephen turned his attention towards producing jazz artists, the work came fast and furious. Smith has co-produced sessions with keyboardist/recording artist Patrice Rushen, jazz-funk trumpeter Christian Scott, soul-jazz groundbreaker Donald Bailey, lengendary poet Amiri Baraka, and countless other legends of the music. With fellow Talking House producer Marc Weibel, Smith is currently co-producing the epic, 10-disc series Blueprints of Jazz: Innovators Revealed for Talking House, and you can still catch him playing bass in local nightclubs when his schedule allows.
Stephen is currently in production on the debut release from grooving, down-tempo European pop duo Under.
